A family adventure in Finnish Lapland

Our COO Michelle recently travelled to Finnish Lapland with her family, where they embraced the best of both worlds: pulse‑raising Arctic activities and the calm, restorative beauty of this iconic Nordic destination. Their family adventure in Lapland offered everything from snowy thrills to quiet moments surrounded by the magic of the far north. It’s the kind of Lapland travel experience that both energizes and grounds you — and their journey captures exactly why this region is one of the most unforgettable winter destinations in the world.

Our week started in Rovaniemi, the official home of Santa Claus. Ironically, we forgot to visit Santa, there is simply so much more to Rovaniemi than Santa Claus alone. We stayed at the beautiful Halo igloos and made friends with their onsite reindeer. We grilled sausages and marshmallows, and enjoyed relaxing in our own private jacuzzi, which is part of the halo experience.

From there, we spent two amazing nights at Nova Skyland. What I truly appreciated about this property is the location, close enough to it all and far away enough to still enjoy the calmness of the North.  Our days were full of adventure — from Snowman World to a snowmobile tour through breathtaking landscapes, crossing frozen lakes and winding through snow-covered forests. We enjoyed lunch in the fairytale-like setting of Piparina, felt the adrenaline rush of ice kart driving, and experienced the unique tranquillity of aurora ice floating. We also made sure to leave time simply to be. No wonder we missed Santa!

From Rovaniemi, we continued north to Saariselkä, where we stayed at the stunning new Wilderness Hotel Saariselkä. They truly get everything right — from the accommodation to the service, striking the perfect balance between premium quality and genuine friendliness. Honestly, we didn’t want to leave.

While Saariselkä offers all the winter excursions one could wish for, I would also like to highlight the skiing opportunities. The northernmost ski resort in Europe is located here, and the slopes truly offer something for everyone. Paradise doesn’t always have to be tropical, and we absolutely loved spending a full day at Saariselkä Ski Resort.

After a wonderful two nights, we continued North to Inari and ended our super Arctic week at the Wilderness hotel Inari.  Our final excursion was the Aurora Camp. During this experience, we travelled across a frozen lake to an area completely free of light pollution making the appearance of the Aurora Borealis even more magical.

After a week in the Arctic, we returned to Oslo feeling grateful, with full hearts and wide smiles.

" Working at Haman Travel is all about building strong relationships with our clients and partners, understanding why we do what we do, and taking the time to truly experience what we sell. Why we do what we do is easy to answer, and it became even clearer during my last family vacation to Finnish Lapland. "

A sincere thank you to all our partners who continue to work with us, and to our clients who trust us to plan these unforgettable journeys, because behind every itinerary we design are real families looking for real moments.
